Describe your college experience

My transition to college was not easy - in my freshman year, I struggled to make friends and was still learning how to execute my days properly. However, since then, I have flourished at the UW, finding people I connect with in clubs on campus and developing close relationships with my roommates. I am much more on top of my schoolwork as well, and I feel as though I am learning a great amount in my classes as a result.

Tip for future students

One piece of advice I would give to future students is to build a schedule for yourself early and, more importantly, actually follow it. In high school, it was easy for me to rely on deadlines and structure that were already built into my day, but college requires much more self-discipline. Having a plan for when you will study, attend club meetings, exercise, and relax can make a huge difference in reducing stress and staying on top of your responsibilities. I also wish I had known that it takes time to find your people and settle into college life. If things do not click right away, be patient, stay involved, and keep putting yourself out there—the friendships and routines that make college enjoyable often develop gradually.

Favorite class

My favorite class at UW has been Real Analysis. Before taking it, most of my math classes focused on learning techniques and applying formulas, but Real Analysis introduced me to a completely different way of thinking. It taught me how to build rigorous mathematical arguments from first principles and approach problems through logic and proof. The class felt much more like puzzle solving than computation, and it opened up a new part of my brain. I found it incredibly rewarding to work through difficult problems and gradually uncover why mathematical ideas are true, not just how to use them.

Career goals

After college, I hope to work as a mathematician or data analyst for an organization that has a positive impact on people's lives. I am especially interested in using data and quantitative methods to help solve large-scale social and public health problems. Working for an organization such as the World Health Organization, or a company with a similar mission, would allow me to combine my interests in mathematics, data analysis, and service to others. I want my career to involve both challenging analytical work and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful real-world outcomes.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is with a small group of close friends, playing games, talking, and enjoying each other's company. I usually prefer smaller gatherings where conversations can be more meaningful and relaxed. If no one is free, I am just as happy spending the evening on my own by watching a documentary, or going for a walk while listening to music.
