I am a third year​/​Senior at the UW, and I am majoring in Indigenous Archaeology. I have a multitude of different experiences from my time at school, including in Greek Life as a member of a sorority, a previous ASUW Senator, and a Native student involved in the First Nations community, among other extracurriculars. Additionally, I have experience living both off-campus as a commuter, and near campus in the U-District. I take pride in my school, and I look forward to getting to share my experiences with others and helping them get a clearer picture of what life as a UW student looks like!

Describe your college experience

So far, college has been an incredibly experience, though being a commuter during the school-year has certainly changed my expectations for what the "college experience" is supposed to look like. I didn't necessarily get the dorm experience, or anything close to the movie version of college. Regardless, I've made lifelong friendships, and have built meaningful relationships with my professors that will help carry me through the next chapter of my life after I graduate.

Tip for future students

Put yourself out there! Don't be afraid to join clubs, talk to new people, and go outside! It can be intimidating coming to such a large school, and when I had first come to college I was very nervous I wouldn't find my place or my people. But, it just takes a little push outside your comfort zone, and you'll find yourself fitting in right where you belong.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been my Global Ethnoarchaeology class taught by Professor Dr. Sven Haakanson, an archaeologist who centers Indigenous perspectives in his work. The class was incredibly hands-on, and that's what I enjoyed the most about it. All of our work required a lot of learning-by-doing, and I felt that really helped expand my knowledge of the subject, and our final project was super fun. I ended up building a small 1​/​5th scale version of a traditional Coast Salish loom, that ended up on display at the Burke Museum for a few months!

Career goals

I intend to go to Graduate School, specifically a PhD program in Archaeology. I am in the process of applying to multiple different programs, and will hopefully be admitted next year. After this, I intend to pursue Academia as a Professor.

Ideal way to spend a free night

A nice long walk outside with friends, then heading over to Jai Thai on the Ave for some Mango Sticky Rice (if it's in season!), and then heading home to watch a movie and read a good book.

Previous college

Bellevue College, I was a Running Start student, a program that allows High School students to take College Courses at nearby and participating public colleges with no extra cost, and earn college credit. I supplemented any APs for College level coursework that aligned with my future degree.
