Hi! I'm a junior studying Civil Engineering at UT Austin. I'm involved in a few engineering student organizations on campus, primarily the Minority Academic Engineering Society. I moved here from Korea, and while I'm not technically an international student anymore, I understand a lot of the experiences and struggles of international students. I enjoy cooking, exercising, playing basketball, and thrifting. I'm excited to share my experiences and answer any questions!

Describe your college experience

Stepping onto campus for the first time as a freshman can be daunting, there was so much I was unaware of and I felt like I was always a step behind. Joining student orgs and meeting new people definitely helped making that transition easier. While handling academics, social life, finances, and everything can be difficult, the personal and academic growth has been extremely rewarding.

Tip for future students

Don't skip class! Try your best to show up and put yourself out there. Whether it's career fairs, org meetings, or social outings, or talking to professors, don't be afraid and seek new opportunities. You're here to learn and grow so ask questions and take advantage of all the resources available to you.

Favorite class

Transportation Systems! I took it as a required class for my major. Learning about the processes and ideas that go into big picture transportation planning intrigued me and working on a project of designing bus routes to optimize ridership got me to start thinking more creatively. Working on more open ended projects rather than answering questions with exact answers was a lot of fun.

Career goals

I hope to work full time as an engineer in training for several years, hopefully becoming licensed as a Professional Engineer. I want to specialize in public transportation design, however, any fields related to sustainability and the environment are high on my list as well.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Spend the day outdoors at Barton Springs, get Mexican food, and have a little movie night at a friend's apartment. Most days I can settle with playing basketball and working out, cooking something nice for dinner and binge watching a show.
