UCSD Cognitive Behavioral Science Student
Hi! My name is Niki, and I’m a Cognitive Science student at UC San Diego. As a current student, I love sharing my experiences and helping prospective students get a realistic look at life at UCSD. I can provide insight into academics, research opportunities, student organizations, Greek life, housing, dining, and some of my favorite spots on campus. Whether you’re considering applying, deciding between schools, or preparing to start your first year, I’m happy to answer questions and help you feel more confident about what to expect. My goal is to give you an honest student perspective and help you experience UCSD beyond what you see online.

Describe your college experience
Transitioning to college was definitely an adjustment, but UCSD quickly started to feel like home. I've grown a lot both academically and personally through my classes, student organizations, and meeting people from different backgrounds. As a CBN student, I've enjoyed exploring topics related to the brain, behavior, and neuroscience while also getting involved in campus life. My experience has taught me how to balance academics, friendships, and extracurricular activities while making the most of everything UCSD has to offer.
Tip for future students
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there during your first year. Everyone is focusing on becoming the best versions of themselves! Join clubs, attend events, talk to people in your classes, and take advantage of campus resources. UCSD is a large university, so building a community takes some initiative, but there are countless opportunities to find your people. Also, start exploring research opportunities early if you’re interested in gaining hands-on experience.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been Space and Time in the Brain. I found it fascinating to learn how the brain processes spatial navigation, memory, and our perception of time. The course combined neuroscience, cognition, and real-world research in a way that completely changed how I think about how we experience and interact with the world around us.
Career goals
After college, I hope to work in the neuroscience and biotechnology industry, helping develop innovative treatments for neurological and cognitive disorders. I’m especially interested in how research can be translated into real-world therapies and medications that improve people’s lives. My long-term goal is to contribute to the development of new drugs and technologies that advance our understanding and treatment of the brain.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night is spending time with friends, grabbing coffee or food around San Diego, watching a movie, or relaxing by the beach. Sometimes it’s also nice to have a quiet night studying at one of UCSD’s libraries or catching up on a good show after a busy week.
