Describe your college experience
I transferred in as a sophomore, and it was difficult at first. I kept getting in my head about not being good enough or smart enough, but that feeling faded once I realized I truly belonged and could do this. I joined a club, a fraternity, and applied to as many programs as I could that genuinely interested me, and those decisions really shaped my experience. The more involved I got, the more connections I built, and that is when I truly started to enjoy college.
Tip for future students
Do not worry so much. I do not mean skip studying or stop trying. I mean do your best AND enjoy the ride. Go to the event. Get lunch with that friend. Start early and do it now. You will quickly realize you are not the only one who struggles, and upperclassmen are always willing to help and share great advice. Most importantly, make genuine connections.
Favorite class
International Ballroom Dancing. I got to dance and meet so many different people, and the class had such a lighthearted, fun energy. I still laugh thinking about doing the Vampire Diaries dance with one of my classmates while our professor J comedically yelled "that's not the waltz!" Those are the kinds of moments that are going to be core memories for me.
Career goals
I hope to break into finance, specifically as a financial analyst in the health and wellness space. I am interested in working directly for a health and wellness company or even getting into hospital finance.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Kickboxing or the gym with my best friend, then showering and heading to the Americana for dinner and a walk around. We would probably drive to GoGreek for frozen yogurt after, and from there anything could happen since I love being spontaneous. A hike, a campus walk, an unexpected visit to a friend's place... the night writes itself.
High school or secondary school
Glendale High School, Glendale, California
Previous college
I transferred from Glendale Community College. There are a lot of programs designed to help transfer and new students adjust, including career center resources and programs like the Transfer Success Program, which I was a part of. These resources really helped me settle in and shape my overall experience.
