Brown University student-athlete studying political science and history.

Hi, my name is Michael Citarella and I just finished my junior year at Brown studying Political Science and History. I am a member of the mens rugby team as well as Brown Votes and Brown Students Demand action which are clubs centered around civic engagement and legislative advocacy. I am in Providence this summer because I am working with both a political campaign and law office. Brown is a second home to me and I love getting to share it with students looking to apply.

Describe your college experience

Brown has become a home away from home for me. Everywhere I turned I have found passionate and kind people waiting for me and academic freedom one can only dream of at other institutions. I could not have asked for a better first three years of college. The culture at Brown at all levels can’t be beat.

Tip for future students

Be open to failure and having to evolve and grow as a person. No one follows the exact plan for college they set out for themselves freshman year.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been the American Civil War because the professor was both engaging and truly an expert in the course materials. He gave us a strong foundation of knowledge while also allowing us room to freely debate and discuss different ideas and thoughts during discussions.

Career goals

I hope to go to law school and use litigation to advocate for those who lack a voice in our system most often.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Playing board games with my friends and then going to a party with my teammates.

Mike was an unbelievable tour guide for Brown university. His knowledge of the school campus, admissions, housing, and school academics gave us a true insight into the make up of the university. He went out of his way to make sure that all of our questions were answered and that we didn’t leave the tour without having all the information we needed to make a proper decision for our daughter. For any parents seeking a personalized tour of Brown university, I would highly recommend using Mike as your tour guide.

Michael was awesome! He was formative and you could tell he really loves Brown University! He went above and beyond to provide an amazing tour. He took the time to answer all of our questions and gave us time to take lots of pics.
