Hi! I'm Maleah- a sophomore studying marketing in the Darla Moore School of Business and the Honors College at the University of South Carolina. I have a unique perspective because not only have I lived on campus the past two years, but I actually started living on campus when I was 9 years old. My mom was the faculty principal of one of our residence halls, Preston, so I grew up living there from 9-16 years old, and now I'm back as a student. USC has truly always been home to me. I am very comfortable with the campus and would love to show you around! In my free time I enjoy going to concerts, going on walks, and spending time with my friends and cats.

Describe your college experience

Having experience with college classes (through dual enrollment), college living (through my mom's former work), and Columbia (having lived here my whole life), I had a relatively easy transition to college. I quickly became active in several campus ministries and organizations and made friends through those and my classes. Adjusting to living away from my parents (although not far), new friends, and harder classes was a bit daunting at first, but ended up being so rewarding, and I feel so grounded and happy here at USC with great friends and involvements to keep me busy.

Tip for future students

Try everything, be open-minded, talk to people in your classes, get on LinkedIn early, get involved in organizations, follow all the school-related accounts on social media so you know what events are going on and go to them, don't buy the textbooks until your professor says so on the first day of class, pack lighter than you think

Favorite class

My favorite class at USC was my maymester study abroad in Morocco. Getting to experience the culture and business life in Morocco was surreal, and the food is amazing! My favorite class on the Columbia campus though, has been my social media and society class. Learning about the way algorithms work, the dark side of social media, and how social media has changed society from an amazing professor has been such a fun way to start my Tuesdays and Thursdays.
