Duke University
Hi, I can't wait to show you Duke through the eyes of a sophomore/local!
Hello! My name is Jocelyn and I am a sophomore at Duke studying Earth and Climate Sciences. I love going on walks around the Duke Gardens, trying the many fun coffee shops around Duke and Durham, and baking!

Clubs, organizations & involvement
I am an active member of the Energy and Climate Club and an environmental educator at a local elementary school. Last year, I cofounded a club that connects Duke students with girls in Afghanistan to teach lessons on international relations and environmental science. I am also involved with Jewish Life at Duke, and am currently conducting research on endangered elephants in Zambia!

Describe your college experience
I have loved my time at Duke, and I am excited to show you why. Duke has many resources that make the transition from high school to college an easy one, such as the FOCUS Program, which I participated in during my freshman fall. There are also mandatory orientation groups that take place a week before classes start, ranging from relaxed options like trying new restaurants around Durham to more intensive ones, like camping in the woods without internet for a week.
Tip for future students
I highly recommend becoming friends with the people in your dorm and also going to office hours!!!
Favorite class
My favorite class is the volcanology course I am taking this semester. Over spring break, we went to Hawaii for 10 days to study volcanoes on different islands! I am also currently taking tai chi and American Sign Language.
Career goals
In the future, I hope to become an environmental lawyer.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love going to The Commons (Duke's on-campus steakhouse) with my friends and then going to my favorite ice cream spot in Durham: Simon Says Dip This.
