University of Chicago
Student at UChicago
Hi! I am a freshman at the University of Chicago. I am from New York City and I am double majoring in Political Science and History. In my free time I engage with clubs, play intramural soccer, and hang out with friends. My highlight here so far has been the opportunities and access the University has supplied me. I founded my own law society with 35+ people, I am interning at the Legal Aid Society in NYC, and I have learned so much!

Clubs, organizations & involvement
I founded the University of Chicago Law Society, my university's first law related club. I handpicked a board of 6 and I recruited a UChicago law school professor to be an academic advisor. I'm the first ever freshman on the board of the International Policy Program. I helped host John Podesta and I will be facilitating former Ukrainian political Dasha Zarivna to 100+ peers! I am in both the democratic and republican clubs on campus, mostly because I enjoy hearing diverse opinions. I help organize runs with the club UChicago runs (I ran track in high school). Finally, I created an intramural soccer team with 13 friends. Although we didn't make it too far in the tournament, it was definitely a fun experience!

Describe your college experience
My college time has been a blast! I made so many friends, I love all my classes, and I made good connections with professors and peers alike. While my transition to college was hard and I did feel homesick towards the start of my first quarter, I soon became accustomed to college life.
Tip for future students
I think that an important tip for college students is to have a schedule. I have a lot of free time and I often waste it. A concrete schedule can help with sleep, exercise, and social life. Also, if you have a lot of free time, I recommend picking up a hobby!
Favorite class
My favorite class is definitely my Social Sciences class (SOSC). For some background, SOSC classes are meant to be for sophomores. I decided to take one as a freshmen because I wanted to be challenged from the moment I stepped foot on campus. I am taking a class called "Democracy: Equality, Liberty, and the Dilemmas of Self-government." While the class is challenging, the professors are amazing: my professor helped me secure a summer internship! I love the class because it compares foundational democratic ideas with the conditions and needs of a state.
Career goals
I hope to go to law school. I have interned at public criminal defense firms before, so that is definitely an area of law I'm interested in. Aside from that, I may go into corporate law.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love going downtown with my friends to Chinatown. We usually get AYCE hot pot or waygu beef (surprisingly cheap!), and then hit a bakery or bubble tea shop for dessert. Another fun night activity is watching a funny movie with friends or my dorm house.
