Describe your college experience
I am a first-generation, low-income college student who had no idea what to expect from a liberal arts education. Having spent over four years on Yale's campus, I can say that I've had a whirlwind of a time exploring my interests, enjoying social life at Yale, and taking advantage of all the opportunities this university has to offer. Attending Yale has provided me the experience I need to suceed in my future endevors in public service and social work.
Tip for future students
Do what you are passionate about! Do not worry about having the perfect "Yale" background. No two Yale students look alike. If you follow your interests, your passion and dedication will shine through in any essay you write or interview you have.
Favorite class
My favorite class at Yale was a cross-listed Political Science and Environmental Studies course called Sustainability in the 21st Century. In this course, I learned about climate change from a global perspective. As a part of our final project we simulated a Conference of the Parties (COP) meeting, representing multiple countries and created treaties with agreed upon language. I loved being able to act as a country leader to learn about the realities of climate agreements.
Career goals
I am hoping to complete a Masters of Social Work starting next year, and then hope to study for a law degree. I am looking to work in public service or the non-profit world.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My favorite way to spend a free night is to have a night in with friends watching a movie, cooking, chatting, and laughing.
High school or secondary school
I attended Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School, a public performing arts high school in New Haven.
Meeting point
Phelps Gate on the Yale University campus
