Clubs, organizations & involvement

During my time at Holmes Community College, I actively participated in several performing arts organizations, including the HCC Choir, HCC Gospel Choir, the “Coachmen” A-Cappella Group, and the Dazzler Dance Team, where I cultivated teamwork, discipline, and creative expression. Now at The University of Mississippi, I continue to nurture my love for music as a member of the Ole Miss Choir, deepening my connection to campus life and collaborative artistry. Beyond campus, I launched and hosted a motivational podcast focused on mental health, empowerment, and storytelling—an initiative that allowed me to connect with diverse audiences and lead meaningful conversations. I am also a certified Youth Mental Health First Aider, committed to supporting emotional wellness in academic and community spaces. Professionally, I’ve held leadership roles as a District Manager and Sales Lead in retail, where I oversaw team development, drove performance, and earned recognition as a Top 5 Performer.

Describe your college experience

My transition to college was marked by both growth and grit. After graduating from Education Private School in July 2013, I began my college journey at Holmes Community College on a scholarship for choir and dance. Toward the end of my high school transition, I began facing the challenges of a newly diagnosed learning disability and ADHD, which made academic life more complex. In 2015, I relocated to Southaven and continued my education at Northwest Mississippi Community College, and enrolled in the "2+2 Program". Though the path wasn’t linear and it took time to earn my associate’s degree, I remained committed to my goals—often joking that I’m a “10-year, 2-year student.” Through perseverance and self-discovery, I’ve built a strong foundation and am proud to continue my academic career with renewed focus and purpose. Now, as I prepare to transfer to The University of Mississippi to pursue a degree in Social Work with a minor in Broadcast Journalism, I’m excited to turn my experiences into advocacy, creativity, and meaningful impact.

Tip for future students

College doesn’t always follow a straight path, and that’s okay. As a self-proclaimed “10-year, 2-year student,” I’ve learned that your timeline is valid, no matter how long it takes. Progress isn’t about speed; it’s about persistence. Early on, I realized the importance of advocating for my learning needs, especially while navigating ADHD. Creating intentional systems and calm environments made all the difference. I also discovered that scholarships come in many forms, and mine were rooted in choir and dance, proving that your unique talents can open doors you didn’t expect. Transitions, like moving between campuses or starting fresh in a new city, can be tough, but they’re also transformative. Each shift gave me a chance to grow, reset, and redefine my goals. And through it all, I’ve learned to laugh. Humor helped me stay grounded, even when things felt uncertain. So if you’re a student feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or off-track—know that your journey is still unfolding, and it’s worth every step.

Favorite class

My favorite class in school has always been history. I believe you can’t truly move forward without understanding the past. History offers more than dates and events—it’s a guide for navigating life with intention. It teaches us that every action leaves a blueprint, shaping the future in ways we may not immediately see. Studying history reminds me that I’m part of a larger story, and it inspires me to make choices that contribute to a legacy worth remembering.

Career goals

My ultimate career goal is to obtain a master’s degree in social work and launch a practice that provides unlimited resources for youth facing emotional and social challenges. I’m especially passionate about supporting those struggling with mental health, helping them build social skills, and guiding them to transform hidden wounds into healing wisdom. I envision creating a space where healing meets empowerment—where young people feel seen, heard, and equipped to thrive. I also plan to combine my Social Work degree with my Broadcast Journalism background, allowing me to bring both expertise and empathy to conversations around mental health. Whether I’m working directly with clients or discussing wellness topics on my podcast, I want to ensure that every message I share is backed by education, experience, and a deep commitment to change.

Ideal way to spend a free night

On a free night, I love keeping things chill if I’m staying in—watching movies or my favorite YouTube shows, listening to music, and just unwinding. If I’m heading out, the vibe depends on the crew I’m with. I’m always down for bowling, catching a movie, or my all-time favorite: karaoke. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and my dog, Ghost St. Patrick, or getting creative by prepping for my next podcast episode. Whether it’s laid-back or lively, I’m all about making the most of the moment.
