Describe your college experience

My transition to college wasn’t entirely smooth at first. I came in feeling unsure of myself and overwhelmed by the changes, but over time I found my place. I started exploring what really interested me, got involved in campus life, and worked hard to turn things around academically. As a Public Relations and Psychology student, I’ve learned to balance creativity with critical thinking, and I’ve grown a lot both personally and professionally. College has helped me discover what I’m passionate about, pushed me to become more confident and independent, and shaped the way I want to move through the world after graduation.

Tip for future students

One tip I would give to future students is to give yourself time to figure things out. I changed my major multiple times before finding the right fit and I am still graduating on time. It shows that your path does not have to be perfect to be successful. It is okay to feel uncertain in the beginning because college is a big transition. Do not be afraid to ask for help, try new things, and explore different directions until something clicks. Use the resources around you whether it is tutoring, academic advising, or talking to your professors. Everyone is figuring it out as they go. You are not behind. You are just getting started.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes at Virginia Tech was Design Appreciation, taught by Professor Greg Tew. It wasn’t a traditional design class focused only on aesthetics—it was about understanding how design shapes nearly every aspect of our lives, from the clothes we wear to the systems that support society. The course challenged me to think critically about the ethics behind consumer products, the environmental impact of everyday choices, and how design reflects deeper values like empathy and sustainability. What made the class so impactful was how it connected global issues like climate change, labor exploitation, and resource scarcity to the objects and systems we often take for granted. It pushed me to ask hard questions: Who made this product? What was sacrificed in the process? Is this system sustainable? I loved that it wasn’t about memorizing facts, but about rethinking the way we live and interact with the world. It made me more aware, more curious, and more responsible.

Career goals

After college, I plan to take a gap year to travel and backpack through Thailand and parts of Southeast Asia. I’ve always been drawn to experiencing different cultures firsthand, and I think stepping outside of my comfort zone will give me a fresh perspective before continuing my education. I want to spend time volunteering, learning from people with completely different life experiences, and giving myself space to reflect on who I am outside of academics. After that, I plan to pursue graduate school in either communications or psychology, depending on where my interests deepen. I hope the combination of real-world experience and further education will help me grow both personally and professionally.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is with a small group of close friends, maybe going out for ice cream, walking around campus, or just hanging out and talking. I love good conversation, music, and being around people who make me feel at ease. If I am spending the night alone, I am probably watching a true crime documentary, journaling, or planning my next trip. I really value time that feels intentional and recharging.
