Rising Junior at Virginia Tech Majoring in Ecological Restoration!
Hello, my name is Aaliyah and I am a rising junior at VT majoring in Ecological Restoration. VT was not my first choice, but after 2 years here, I cannot imagine myself anywhere else. I am very involved from playing rugby to being a DJ on the school's radio station. I would love to answer any questions you have and give you a glimpse into life as a Hokie!

Describe your college experience
The transition from home to college was rough and it took time to get settled. I found that making meaningful friendships has been challenging, but doing clubs where I could find people with common interests helped a lot. Academically, college whipped me into shape, and I am a better student than I high school, especially since I am excited about what I am leanirng.
Tip for future students
Learn how to study before you get to college and your freshman year will be a lot less painful. Give yourself grace. It is okay to now have your closest friends at first and it is okay to made bad decisions and mistakes, this is the time to do it! EVeyrhting will work itself out. Do not neglect school and for a social life and don't neglect a social life for school. It is crucial to your well-being and future that you balance both. Go to office hours! It is a college hack. Your professor will guide you through problems a lot of the times, and you'll form a relationship with a professor which can be useful later.
Favorite class
My favorite class was Principles of Fish and Wildlife because my professor was engaging and the topics really spoke to me.
Career goals
I want to do field research, eventually go to grad school, and work as a conservationist for the EPA, USGS, NOAA, or US Army Corp of Engineers. But honestly, nothing is set in stone! My interests are always changing.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love to hang out with my friends and go out, watch a reality TV show, or cook/bake together. On my own, I like to read, watch movies, or go on runs.
