North Carolina State University
NCSU Master's Student, has 2 Bachelor's from NCSU
Hi, I'm Emily! I attended NC State for undergrad and double-majored in Communication (Media Concentration) and Arts Studies (Film Concentration). I'm in my final semester of my MA in English here at NC State. I've been a State student for the past seven years (and teaching assistant for the past two), and I would love to help show you around and answer your questions! I have lived on main campus, Centennial campus, and commuted from home, as well as been an undergrad student, graduate student, and employee at State! Because of this, I believe I have unique and valuable insights on life at NCSU. I'm excited to help prospective students explore NC State!

Describe your college experience
Because I was in undergrad during the pandemic, my college experience has had a lot of ups and downs! Overall, though, I've met some amazing people and found a lot of opportunities at NC State. For example: in my freshman year, I was in the University Scholars program, and I was able to attend multiple musicals, operas, ballets, and museum exhibitions through that!
Tip for future students
You can borrow just about anything from the library. Literally, if you want to borrow an XBox controller, you can. You need a VCR? They have it. What about a kit to build your own EMF reader? They have that, too. Do you want to read a book or article that the library doesn't have? Put in a request and they'll get it to you, usually within a couple of days.
Favorite class
It would have to be a tie between Intro Photography and The Gothic Horror Film. My photography class fostered a wonderful community of people with various creative and academic interests, and I had the time of my life making cameras, developing film, and growing as an artist alongside them. The Gothic Horror Film was a special topics course which I took for honors credit, and it was so fascinating that it sent me down the path of getting my Master's!
Career goals
Eventually, I'd like to become a professor! For now, though, I'm planning to take a break from school and am looking to work as a content writer, photographer, or communications manager.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal night would probably be seeing a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, or attending a musical!
