AMELIA - WORST TOUR GUIDE EVER

Amelia D
Amelia DNew

Hi everyone! I am not the worst tour guide ever, I just wanted you to click on my page! My name is Amelia, I'm a senior graduating this Spring 2025 with a double major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and International Affairs. I also have a minor in Hospitality and a certificate in Interdepartmental Developmental Disabilities. I am an out-of-state student from Chicago, IL, and have absolutely loved my experience at FSU. However, it's important to me that I share both the good and bad parts of the university. Some highlights of my experience have been my experience studying abroad in Australia, and being a part of sports clubs (rugby and waterpolo!)

Describe your college experience

I have loved my university experience. As an out-of-state student, it was definitely challenging to come into a place without knowing anyone, but it makes me especially proud of the community I've built here. I'm someone who is always on the go and I've been extremely involved on campus since my freshman year. But for as many all-nighters I've spent in Strozier, I've had many nights out and about. I'm on the President's List every semester, even with semesters of taking 18 credit hours and saying yes to every opportunity that comes my way. That's my favorite thing about FSU - the work hard, play hard attitude.

Tip for future students

You'll learn that oftentimes big universities offer a lot of the same things (great professors, 200+ clubs, lots of research opportunities, similar housing, big rec center, etc). Take a breath, there is almost never only one "right" choice. Your experience is as much what you make of it as it is about the school itself.

Favorite class

American Sign Language 1, 2 and 3 - This was my favorite class as I have a special interest in working with the Deaf community. I did not need the language credit, I just love ASL. Its history, culture, and general community is so interesting, and really important regarding increasing accessibility.

Career goals

Immediately post-grad, I hope to continue my swim lesson business that I have built over many summers. For the next year, I plan to go back to Australia for a Working Holiday Visa, to live and work for a year. In the future, I plan to go back to graduate school for Speech Pathology, one day opening up my own private practice.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Going out with friends, trying a new place - there's a lot to do here in Tallahassee (if you know where to look)
