Clubs, organizations & involvement

During my undergraduate studies at SRM University, I was actively involved in organizing and managing various events and workshops. I held leadership roles, such as managing a team of 20 members for college event decorations and coordinating over five student engagement activities. These experiences helped me develop strong organizational and leadership skills. Additionally, I organized a programming workshop with over 30 participants, focusing on web development. I handled participant and panel communication, answered queries, and ensured smooth execution of the workshop. In my professional career at Bank of America, I managed in-office events, including volunteer programs, overseeing participant management for over 100 individuals, and fostering a positive work environment through team-building activities. These experiences reflect my ability to take initiative, lead teams, and effectively manage events, all of which have contributed to my growth as a leader and organizer.

Describe your college experience

My college experience at the University of Maryland (UMD) has been incredibly enriching and memorable. Transitioning to UMD was smooth, thanks to the welcoming and vibrant campus community. One of the highlights of my time here is spending time at McKeldin Mall, which boasts beautiful greenery and offers a serene environment for relaxation and study. The water fountain at the mall adds to the campus's charm, creating a peaceful ambiance that I greatly enjoy. The McKeldin Library has been an invaluable resource for my academic journey. It's not just a place for studying but also a hub for collaboration and research, providing access to an extensive collection of books, journals, and digital resources. I’ve spent countless hours there, both in quiet study and group discussions. Other iconic spots on campus, such as the Stamp Student Union and the Memorial Chapel, have also played a significant role in my UMD experience. These locations are more than just buildings; they are gathering places that foster a sense of community and belonging. Overall, my experience at UMD has been a perfect blend of academic challenges, personal growth, and unforgettable memories, all set against the backdrop of a beautiful and inspiring campus.

Tip for future students

One of the key tips I would share with future students at the University of Maryland is to take full advantage of the resources available on campus. The McKeldin Library is a fantastic place not just for studying, but for accessing a wealth of academic resources and getting help from librarians. Additionally, exploring study spots around campus, like McKeldin Mall, can make studying more enjoyable and less stressful. I also recommend getting involved in campus activities early on. Whether it’s joining clubs, attending events, or participating in workshops, these experiences can help you build a network, make friends, and develop new skills. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Another tip is to manage your time effectively. Balancing coursework with extracurriculars can be challenging, but setting a schedule and sticking to it can make a big difference. Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out for help—whether it’s academic support, career advice, or personal counseling, UMD offers numerous services to help you succeed. Looking back, I wish I had known how valuable it is to connect with professors and peers early on. Building these relationships can open up opportunities for mentorship, research, and collaborations that enrich your college experience.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes at the University of Maryland has been Secure Coding for Software Engineers. This course has been incredibly insightful, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of the essential secure coding practices that every software engineer should know. Through this class, I’ve learned about various security vulnerabilities, how to identify them, and the best practices for mitigating risks. The hands-on assignments and real-world examples have given me practical experience in writing secure code, which is invaluable in today’s tech landscape. The knowledge I’ve gained in this class has not only enhanced my coding skills but also made me more aware of the importance of security in software development. It’s a subject that has significantly shaped my approach to coding and will continue to influence my work in the future.

Career goals

After college, my goal is to become a software engineer with exceptional technical skills and strong management capabilities. I am passionate about developing innovative and secure software solutions, and I aim to work in an environment that challenges me to continuously improve my coding and problem-solving abilities. In addition to honing my technical expertise, I aspire to develop strong leadership and project management skills. I believe that being a well-rounded professional involves not only technical proficiency but also the ability to effectively manage teams, communicate ideas, and oversee projects from inception to completion. Ultimately, I hope to contribute to meaningful projects that make a positive impact while continuing to grow both professionally and personally.

Ideal way to spend a free night

An ideal way to spend a free night at the University of Maryland could start with bowling or arcade games at TerpZone, followed by catching a movie or performance at the Hoff Theater. To wrap up the evening, participating in a fun and engaging activity like a trivia night or crafting session at Friday Fun Nights in the Stamp Student Union would be a perfect way to unwind and connect with friends.
