The Tall Guy With BIG Wolfpack Energy!

Jeremy V
Jeremy VNew

Hi, I’m Jeremy, a sophomore at NC State majoring in Sports Marketing. I’m 6'5" (so you won’t miss me!) and love being part of the Wolfpack. Whether I’m grabbing food at Talley Student Union, working out at Carmichael Gym or relaxing at Miller Fields, I’ve found the best spots to connect with others, stay active, or focus on studying. I’ve been exploring campus life since day one and can’t wait to share my experience with you.

Clubs, organizations & involvement

Sigma Nu Fraternity: I’m part of the Sigma Nu chapter at NC State, where I’ve made great friends and gotten involved in campus and community events. Recreational Golf: I enjoy playing golf in my free time. Lonnie Poole, which is the NC State public golf course is just awesome and offers student memberships which are pretty reasonable. There is a shuttle you can take there. Pickleball: I am just a big fan of the game! It’s a great way to have fun with friends. Did you know NC State has their own Pickleball league and everyone is welcome to join Open Play? Sales Group: Part of this campus organization in order to grow my skills and connect with other students interested in sales and marketing. Not as much fun as golf and pickleball but it's important to join organizations.

Describe your college experience

Coming from a competitive high school, I wasn’t too worried about keeping up with my classes. I had a good grasp on studying and felt prepared. For most incoming students, including myself, the social side of going from high school to college is by far the most challenging part. It’s about finding your group, building connections with new friends, and creating a sense of belonging in a completely different place. Figuring out who you can depend on and where you fit in takes time and some effort, it's not something that happens automatically. For me, getting involved with Sigma Nu, playing golf and pickleball, and connecting with others in the Wolfpack community helped me find my place. Those relationships have made my college experience amazing!

Tip for future students

You’ve already proven you’re a good student by getting here in the first place, so don’t let academics be your only focus. The real challenge is stepping outside your comfort zone. Join a group, try a sport (remember pickleball is open to anyone), or take part in something completely new (maybe fencing? Yes NC State has that!) Finding your people and building connections will make a huge difference in your experience. College is a chance to grow, try new things, and figure out who you’re becoming. It’s a totally fresh start, and that’s something to be really excited about.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes so far has been MEA 130 (3): Intro to Weather and Climate. Honestly, I never saw myself taking a class like that, but I ended up really enjoying it. Fun fact: lenticular clouds, which look like UFOs, form when air flows over mountains in just the right way. TIP: When choosing classes, most college students also check out sites like Rate My Professor. It’s a great way to get an idea of what other students thought about their professors and what you can expect from the class.

Career goals

After college, I’d like to go into sales because I am happiest and most in my zone when I am talking with people. I don’t really see myself in a desk job, I want a career where I can build relationships. I’m majoring in Sports Marketing because I love the business side of sports, but I’m also working on a minor in business and finance to keep my options open. Whatever I do (all things are possible still!) I know it will involve people and staying active.

Ideal way to spend a free night

For me, it doesn’t really matter what I’m doing as long as I’m with people I care about and who make me laugh. Some of the best parts of college aren’t just the big events like football or basketball games (which was epic last year!). It’s also the smaller moments that I talk about the most with my family. Whether it’s getting a pizza and just chilling in front of game or talking about anything and everything, those are the times that really make you feel connected and a part of something.
