Olivia (20), second-year psychology major with a minor in computer science
Hi! My name is Olivia and I’m currently a second-year at Northeastern University. I’m a psychology major with a minor in computer science who loves all things psych related. I’m an absolute Boston fanatic and completely fell in love with the city upon attending Northeastern. I love to visit the city with my friends, or staying in when it’s super cold. I play guitar, piano, and a variety of other instruments, and am always looking for opportunities to play during the school year!

Describe your college experience
My first semester at Northeastern was spent abroad, so the change was definitely there. I was in Northern Ireland, which has a totally different academic system than the US, so on top of adjusting to college in general, there was this whole other level of adapting I had to do. But after around only two weeks I was completely in the swing of things and loved my study abroad experience. I did have to make another adjustment when I finally came to the Boston campus the following semester, but in no time I fell in love with the city and couldn’t imagine my college experience anywhere else.
Tip for future students
College can seem super overwhelming, especially coming right out of high school. You’re thrown into a new environment with new people and overall, a different pace of life. One thing I wish I’d known is that it’s not as scary as it may seem…it’s actually a lot better in my personal opinion. At first, I was scared about meeting new people and having this new sense of freedom (academically and socially) that I’d never really experienced before, but after a bit of adjustment, it all became so rewarding and I’d never give up this experience for anything.
Favorite class
My favorite class has had to be my clinical psychology course. This class may not be for everyone since it delves into pretty serious topics, however, clinical psychology has always been such a huge interest of mine, and this class just confirmed it’s what I’d want to pursue in the future. However, I’d like to add in my game development class I took over a summer for my computer science minor. This class was so much fun! I got to work with my peers to design a variety of different games, both physical and digital, and they all felt so rewarding to complete.
Career goals
After college I hope to study psychology further and pursue a Masters Degree. Ideally, I’d want to focus on the clinical aspect of psychology, and maybe work at a clinic or hospital where I can learn more.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be to take advantage of what my city has to offer. I feel so incredibly lucky to go to a school right in Boston, and love venturing out to visit new restaurants, book stores, markets, etc. with my friends!
