Describe your college experience

I will be taking this a different route by discussing my current experience in Graduate school. First: DO IT. Graduate school is different, but in the best of ways. You do not sit down and question the point of the course. You get to focus on your path to becoming a professional in the field with a cohort of people that share similar passions and goals. For me, it was a big transition, but by opening myself to conversations with random peers and professors, I have quickly adjusted and do not feel out of place in my program.

Favorite class

My favorite class has definitely been Diversity and Social Justice Issues in the Social Work Practice. I take it on a Saturday morning, but my professor is the most down to earth person ever. The class basically goes with discussion current events, how it is related to the curriculum, and how to apply it to social work. It is certainly a class that does not feel like a class. I have never done a class on a weekend, but this one gets me out of bed in the morning and excited for class discussions. You feel like you're actually having a meeting with a group of your peers in trying to understand and improve society. There are a lot of uncomfortable topics, but you have to embrace them in order to address personal biases and self reflect on them.

Career goals

My goal after graduate school is to get my license in social work, later becoming a LISW, and becoming a sex therapist. I hope to promote a safe environment that empowers individuals to reclaim their bodies as their own, promote safe and healthy relationships, and be an advocate for sexual assault and domestic abuse survivors.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal night as an introvert is to order food from FuruSato Bento and enjoy a nice K-drama or anime on Netflix. No chores, no assignments, and no work. Just food and TV. Enjoy the little things.

Previous college

I previously went to Charleston Southern University. It was a private Baptist college that was less than 5 miles from my house. They implement religion into their curriculum, as well as required chapel hours every semester. While I did not enjoy those being part of my learning experience, I did enjoy the smaller class sizes. I think the largest may have been 40-50 students, but the average class size was more in the ball park of 20-25 students. For those looking for a close knit environment that offers Christian-related beliefs and programs, this may be for you. And for those who cringe at the idea of being constantly around religion, do not fret. There were plenty of students of different denominations and views that did well here.
