Describe your college experience

Coming to UCSC was definitely an adjustment at first, but it didn't take long to feel at home. I've met great people, gotten involved in clubs, and really enjoyed the balance between challenging classes and the laid-back campus environment. The weather here is especially nice, though a bit on the chilly side. I think overall, my experience has been a lot of fun, and I've learned a lot both inside and outside the classroom.

Tip for future students

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there during your first few weeks. Join clubs, talk to people in your classes, and go to campus events even if you don't know anyone yet. Those small steps make a huge difference, and you'll find your community much faster than you think. I know a lot of students may say the same thing, but it is super important to get to know people, make friends, and just learn something new. It helps take your mind off classes, and prepares you for the future with experience nothing else can give you.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been Linear Algebra (MATH 21). It mixes math with theory in a way that creates some really cool concepts and equations that I never would have expected. It was an eye-opening class because it showed me how much more there is to math than I realized, and it was especially interesting to learn how things like AI and large language models depend so heavily on linear algebra behind the scenes.

Career goals

After college, I hope to work in cybersecurity, ideally on the blue team, where I can help defend systems, secure networks, and protect organizations from cyber threats. I'm also interested in learning more about AI because I think it's transforming the way we interact with technology and solving problems in fascinating ways.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My favorite way to spend a free night is hanging out with my roommates or friends. Some of my favorite memories at UCSC are from last year when one of my roommates brought a movie projector, and we'd all watch movies from our beds in the dorm. It's a simple thing, but those nights were always a lot of fun and are the kind of memories that make college special.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is definitely Banana Joe's in Merrill College. Since it opens later in the evening, it's one of my favorite places to grab a late-night dinner after finishing homework or spending time with friends. They have some of my favorite burgers on campus, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place to unwind and enjoy a break from a busy day.
