Sun, Surf, and Science: SchoolScoops Adds UC San Diego to Its Guide Network

LA JOLLA, CA — January 2026 — UC San Diego's La Jolla campus sits cliffside, minutes from the Pacific, right next to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography — a setting that photographs beautifully but doesn't say much about what students actually do there. SchoolScoops has launched at UCSD to close that gap, connecting prospective students with current Tritons for private, student-led tours.

Underneath the postcard views, UCSD runs on a research-heavy, STEM-intensive academic culture that's hard to fully capture on a standard admissions walk. What it's actually like to balance a demanding course load, find community in one of UCSD's residential colleges, or spend a Saturday at the beach between problem sets is exactly the kind of thing a current student can speak to far better than a script.

A private SchoolScoops tour lets prospective students pick a current UCSD student who matches what they're actually curious about — a marine biology major, an engineer, a transfer student — and get honest answers instead of a highlight reel.

UC San Diego launches with 61 current student guides, available for in-person tours or video chat sessions for families visiting from farther afield.

The UCSD launch adds another top research university to SchoolScoops' growing West Coast presence. Browse available UCSD guides here. Current UCSD students can apply to become a guide and earn $40/hour. Groups and educational consultants can learn more about private group tours.
