Aspiring Psychology Major who loves taking the Scenic Route

Hello! I'm Layla, I am a Psychology major here at Hofstra University, hoping to minor in Philosophy of Law or Criminology. I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Hofstra University has very quickly become my home away from home. You'll typically catch me on the South Side of campus, lounging on the quads on a nice sunny day or at the Student Center on a cloudy and rainy day. I am very involved on campus, I am an associate with the Student Government Association, the Delta Delta Epsilon Forensic Honor society, and so much more! I want to help guide new students and their families around campus to show how beautiful and welcoming Hofstra University is, and hopefully give them another reason to join the Pride!

Describe your college experience

My transition into college was incredibly smooth, Hofstra has a very welcoming environment with many opportunities to get to know your fellow students and faculty. While there has been some hiccups, that is to be expected with a big transition especially with moving to an entirely different state.

Tip for future students

Start budgeting immediately, College is usually the first taste of freedom to do whatever you want. The dining dollars instead of swipes is a double-edged sword, take advantage of the value meals!

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been Criminology 101! Professor Esthapann is incredibly knowledgeable and unique in his teaching of criminology; in his classroom we are equals in discussions rather than the traditional lecturer.

Career goals

I want to be a Criminal Profiler with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night work free would be to take quiet walks around the campus or go out to Roosevelt Mall for a fun night out.

High school or secondary school

Thomas Jefferson High School

Favorite spot on campus

Favorite spot on campus has to be the Pride Den at the Student Center. It's a great spot to relax and is usually quiet enough to get some work done! Plus, with its location, you can grab a bite to eat while you study.

Meeting point

Dunkin' on the Hofstra University campus
