A loud & proud bulldog who loves meeting people and exploring niche campus gems!

Hi! My name is Vivian, and I’m a first-year student at UGA, currently majoring in Psychology on a pre-nursing track. I came from a quiet, random suburban town and suddenly found myself at this gigantic, bustling, and amazing university. At first, UGA felt absolutely humongous, but I’ve learned how to turn this crazy campus into a place that feels like home. You can usually find me in the gym, playing tennis or beach volleyball, at a club meeting, exploring Athens with friends, or hunting for a new restaurant or fun, niche hangout spot. Although I am a picky eater, college is about trying new things. One of my goals while I’m here is to try as many restaurants around Athens as possible! I’ve picked up a lot of the little day-to-day tricks that make college life easier, from the dining halls and bus system to dorm life and random campus hacks. I’d love to share what I’ve discovered during my time here. Don’t be shy about asking questions! I definitely don’t know everything, but I sure will figure it out for you. Sometimes Google can tell you where something is, but it can’t give you the UGA experience behind it. I truly love this campus, and I’d love to help you feel a little more at home here too!

Describe your college experience

I really love that there is always something to do, a new way to meet people, and an opportunity to learn more about myself and how I interact with new people. This has been such a culture shock coming to a big school like this, especially with the classes being more rigorous. I have truly learned a lot, and I have so many chances to try new things that I never would have wanted to or had the opportunity to do without college. I love the constant Bulldog spirit and being able to cheer for and represent something so fun. This is just a new chapter in my life, and I am so happy to be able to experience it here at UGA.

Tip for future students

Prepare to study to actually learn, but study differently than how we “studied” in high school. Also, look at the locations of your classes while registering. I have an unfortunate walk because I did not check beforehand. Learn where your classes are before you start, and learn how to use the bus system. Lastly, try every dining hall and explore campus.

Favorite class

Sociology is my favorite class. Although I am only halfway through the class, I have already learned so many things that apply to both me and everyone around me. It has really helped me see different perspectives in life and understand that every person has their own story. I have learned that so many things are connected to why a person is the way they are, and sociology has helped me understand society a little more.

Career goals

I hope to become a pediatrician in the long run, but in the short term, I am considering becoming a nurse or elementary teacher while working toward that higher degree.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love to hang out with my friends, get some food, play some beach volleyball, walk around town, help my friends get ready for them to go out and finish up all my work so my weekend is free. Then I like to watch a movie and go to sleep so I am ready for Saturday in Athens!!!

Favorite spot on campus

The Dodd Building, 3rd floor, outside breezeway/balcony. It is always empty up there since it is outside, but it is shaded and the breeze feels amazing. The taller view is really nice, and the old, beat-up chairs are surprisingly comfortable. Although I am not an art student, I love that building. I like to study up there, but I also love just sitting and thinking. It is such a peaceful place to take a break, clear my mind, and enjoy the view.
