Hey y’all! My name is Cameryn Polk, and I’m a junior studying Communications and Psychology from Atlanta, Georgia. I came to Vanderbilt after deciding I was ready to leave the South behind, only to quickly realize that Midwest winters were definitely not for me. Somehow, that journey landed me here at Vanderbilt, and in just a few days, this place has already won over my whole heart. Since arriving, I’ve had the chance to find my community through the Black Cultural Center. I may have jokingly “infiltrated” some already-established friend groups, but everyone has welcomed me so warmly that it feels like I’ve always belonged here. I’ve also bonded with friends over one of the universal Vanderbilt experiences: the dreaded long walk from Highland to Rand for lunch. And somehow, I can genuinely say that I wouldn’t want to be walking 15 minutes on any other campus. My experience here has reminded me that Vanderbilt is more than just a beautiful campus or a great academic institution, it’s a place where you can find your people, build a community, and make a new home for yourself. I’m always happy to answer any questions you have about Vanderbilt or the student experience, and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll gladly point you toward someone who does. I’m excited to share my experience with you and hopefully help you see a little bit of what makes Vanderbilt feel like home to me!

Everyone is welcoming and it always feels like I have a space to be myself on campus.

It is okay to not be ok, whether if its not getting a grade you worked hard for or a club you did not make the executive board for...you will be okay.

Favorite class

Elements of Acting because it allowed me to grow outside of my comfort and become comfortable with putting myself out there, even if I fail the first time.

Career goals

Obtain my J.D.​/​M.B.A and become a civil rights or criminal lawyer
