I am an International Affairs major, and I know the campus very well.

Hi! I am Dalton, an International Affairs major looking to pursue a general business minor here at UGA. As I am from Florida, I feel that my experience these last few years is quite unique from others', and I feel that also not having a car or a place to go home on the weekends makes me a very credible source for campus knowledge. My favorite activities to do in my free time are playing and watching soccer and basketball, learning a new language, exploring Athens, and making new friends.

Describe your college experience

I came from a decent-sized private school in Orlando, Florida, and I felt that being part of a much bigger student body was such an opportunity for me. I made countless friends, and found so many people who were interested in the same things as me, and I truly think anyone can find a great group of like-minded people in such a large campus. As for academics, I have never felt over-challenged; however, I have never felt like my classes are outrageously easy. I absolutely love our campus; I find it very walkable and easy to navigate by bus. I live off campus, and being out of state, I haven't had a car in my two years here, and I have been completely well off.

Tip for future students

I wish I knew how different classes are from high school, it is much more based on the energy you bring to the classroom and how willing you are to pay attention and focus in class. Homework is typically less than in high school; more generally, just studying and taking notes in college.

Favorite class

My favorite classes so far have been my Religion Within International Affairs Class, and Arabic 1001. I love my Religion class as I get to see politics through a much more specific lens than typical history and politics classes. As for my Arabic class, my biggest hobby is language learning, and being able to learn how to write and read such a unique script and being able to produce sounds that do not exist in English is such a unique experience for me.

Career goals

I hope to either be in International Affairs, specifically with international diplomacy, or possibly the CIA.

Ideal way to spend a free night

A nice study night on campus, dinner at the dining hall, then sports at either the gym or a hangout with multiple friends.

High school or secondary school

Lake Highland Preparatory School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the Miller Learning Center because it has everything: Study desks, classrooms, lecture halls, food, coffee, call booths, study rooms, a podcast studio, and much more.

Meeting point

UGA Arch on the University of Georgia campus
