Hi! My name is Devereaux, and I’m a Public Health Science major at the University of Maryland, College Park. I’m passionate about health and helping others, which has inspired my goal of attending dental school and pursuing a career in dentistry. Outside of academics, I love spending time with friends, exploring campus, and getting involved in the UMD community. Describe your college experience

My experience at UMD has been amazing so far. I’ve really enjoyed being surrounded by a diverse and welcoming community, getting involved on campus, and meeting people from different backgrounds. I also appreciate the many opportunities UMD provides both academically and socially. Overall, UMD has helped me grow personally, become more independent, and feel more connected to my college community.

Tip for future students

Put yourself out there! It’s easy to fall back on people that you’ve known since high school, and I think that’s it’s important to meet new people as well. It’s also important to learn how to say no. You need to protect your peace and know what’s good for you and what’s not.

Favorite class

My favorite class in college so far has definitely been BSCI170, Introduction to Biological Sciences. I love how simple and straight forward biology is, and it allows me to combine the “why” factor with memorization. It’s truly a fascinating class.

Career goals

I hope to attend dental school. While I’m unsure of my specialization afterwards, dentistry is my passion.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is going outside with friends, grabbing some food, and finding something fun to do around campus.

My favorite spot is definitely Mckeldin! I love the study carrels on the upper floors. They are very quiet and private, and I love how they are open 24 hours during exam season.
