Outgoing “not cracked” computer science major
I’m Uzair, a junior computer science major from Albuquerque, New Mexico. When not hunched over my laptop in my dorm, find me at one of the many libraries on campus (I love YRL), getting completely lost in Boelter Hall, or at De Neve Dining Hall. I’d love to give a fresh perspective as an out-of-state student and an engineering major to anyone who’d like to learn more about the school I’m lucky to call my own.

Describe your college experience
Coming from a small city out of state, I initially felt like a small fish in a big pond. Sometimes I still do but I’m lucky to have such a beautiful campus on my doorstep which always seems abuzz with life.
Tip for future students
Own your campus. Know that you belong. Fearlessly go out and find your tribe and say yes to everything that feels right. You’ll find your place fast.
Favorite class
Logic Design of Digital Circuits (CS M51A) was a great class that taught me a lot about how circuits work under the hood and how to design simple ones from scratch. Professor Kurtz was always helpful, extremely organized, and felt more like an esteemed engineer and like one’s grandparent than a stuffy college professor. I loved his wealth of stories drawing from his vast life experience in the field.
Career goals
Software engineer / researcher
Ideal way to spend a free night
Taking a walk around campus, ideally crossing the street into Westwood for a bite to eat.
High school or secondary school
Albuquerque Academy
Favorite spot on campus
The ground floor of Young Research Library always has ample seating and outlet space, one of the best places to spend a few uninterrupted hours studying.
Meeting point
Bruin Statue on the University of California Los Angeles campus
