What’s up!! My name is Charlie I am currently a second year psych and math student here at ucsb. Honestly I’m doing these tours to practice my stand up comedy in case all else fails. Forewarning chem is hard - but don’t worry you’ll figure it all out everyone does. I’ve made some of my closet friends while going through the thick of it. Yes this school is beautiful but it’s truly the people and the dorm party’s that make this place home!

Describe your college experience

I came in as the only person from my high school class going to UCSB, so I really had to try hard to expand my social circle. My first year I lived in FT and that was a rough experience, so I ended up living with a friend I made in her dorm, and then also eventually transferring to San Miguel... this was all a very interesting experience. Additionally, I joined a sorority and went through the rush process, which introduced me to a lot of other girls here in my sorority and outside of it. I joined the snowboarding club as well, and attempted to join the rock climbing club, but couldn’t because of an injury. Outside of classes, I spent a lot of time being active, like running, working out at the Rec Cen, or going on hikes. I found a lot of musical friends, so we had dorm band parties. I picked up new hobbies and made new friends while doing so. Just the other day, I set up a double slackline with a new friend. Overall, I truly feel like I made the most out of being on and off campus, exploring IV, Goleta, and Santa Barbara.

Tip for future students

Sign up for everything and anything you’ve ever been vaguely interested in. You don’t have to be good, you don’t have to go all the time just fill your time. Realize you’ll never be anyplace like this and you may never live this close to the beach to TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. Don’t be afraid to fail and try and embrace all of it.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes that I have taken since being at UCSB would be East Asian cultural studies. While this is note in the scope of my majors I found it to be incredibly enlightening and enjoyable. I really was fascinated by the culture and the history especially the duality of the DMZ.

Career goals

After college I plan on working as some data​/​consumer analyst. I want to work with human habits and crunch number. Truthfully I know that I want a career to fund my hobbies.

Ideal way to spend a free night

A perfect night for me would start after I’ve complete all my tasks for the day. This could be homework, working out or what ever else. To start off my dream night I practice some hobbies suck as juggling guitar, drums, rock climbing or rubiks cubes. Then I would meet up with some friends maybe go out to eat or make food all together and we would spend the rest of the night hanging out and just “playing”. Recently I’ve been gathering some people to come to the park with me where I bring a soccer ball, a slack line, a guitar and speaker. Then we just hang out, enjoy the sounds of the waves and listen to good music. Maybe to finished off my perfect night we’d ocean dip.

Favorite spot on campus

Bren school of sciences outside tables second floor. This is one of my favorite spots on campus because it is so tucked away yet so out in the open. It has a beautiful view of the ocean, its a perfect walking distance from the dorms and is an incredible outside study place. It’s also an amazing place to catch a moment by your self or bring a friend to picnic
