I am Kiara, a senior at UCSC majoring in Cognitive Science
I am in my last year of school and am sad to leave this part of my life behind. As a first generation college student I think its very important to inspire younger kids to continue their education without fear. I would want to show possible future students around our school and ease any worries about college. I'd also love to be able to make these tours light hearted and fun. College doesn't have to be so scary!

Describe your college experience
I came in very nervous and socially anxious, it felt impossible to make friends and adjusting took me awhile. I was eventually able to push myself forward, I joined clubs, I started an internship where I met amazing people, and I had a stable support system. I split away from my anxieties and was able to fully insert myself into this experience. The experience is what you make of it and realizing that gave me the courage to throw myself into becoming the version of myself i've wanted to be.
Tip for future students
Fake it until you make it if you are introverted or shy, out yourself into possibly uncomfortable situations in order to make progress. This is honestly like exposure therapy for those with social anxiety which makes things funny when you think about it. Don't come in with a nervous mindset, I wish I came here with a "whatever happens, happens" mindset.
Favorite class
Introduction to cognitive functions was an amazing class, I loved the professor and the topics in general since I was finally getting into the focus of psychology I've been wanting to study. Although Intro to psych was the class that taught me how to study and do well in class (I've heard the professor is why).
Career goals
After college my goal is to get into a graduate school, eventually getting a pHD in clinical psychology and becoming a neuropsychologist.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be to get boba from ume, get some snacks, and head out to panther beach.

favorite spot would be the porter meadows either sunrise or sunset so read my books, got me out of my reading slumps!
