Hi! I'm Madeena, a Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major at UCLA on the premed track. Describe your college experience
Coming from Long Island, New York, moving to UCLA was a big change. it was like leaving the bubble of my hometown for the first time, and at first I felt overwhelmed by how many opportunities there were. However, that's exactly what allowed me to really find myself and what I loved. Honestly, college has turned out even better than I imagined.
Tip for future students
Try everything! Coming from Long Island, I didn't realize how many opportunities would be available at UCLA, and stepping outside my hometown bubble to try new things is what helped me find myself here. I went to so many club information sessions, went out of my comfort zone to meet new people, and tried out things I never thought I'd like. From that, I've met so many people who I genuinely connect with.
Favorite class
Global Islam was my favorite class. I loved learning alongside so many different types of people and getting exposed to perspectives so different from my own, which is something that I think was missing from my life prior. We had weekly, 2-3 hour seminars with only 20 people where everyone had to contribute their thoughts, which was especially valuable.
Career goals
I'm on the premed track and hope to go on to medical school after college. Before medical school, I'd like to pursue my passion for art and also gain more experience in research.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night is to walk around Westwood, grab boba or food with friends, and then lay out on the campus grass to stare at the stars and just talk.

Favorite spot on campus
The grass near Janss Steps. In warm weather, everyone sets up hammocks, plays volleyball, and lays out in the sun. I always go there between classes to relax, call friends and family, or run into people I know. It's such a big part of UCLA to me and you really feel the community there.
