My name is Luke and I’m a 3rd year at UVA

My name is Luke and I’m studying Foreign Affairs at UVA! I’ve lived in Virginia most of my life and was super excited to get accepted here. For my first two years I was on the UVA Wrestling team! I love martial arts, rock climbing, trying new foods around Charlottesville, and hanging out in my apartment.

Describe your college experience

The transition to college was kind of brutal. I didn’t have a plan for what I wanted to do, my major, my career or really anything. I was super busy my first two years because I was a part of a D1 program (Wrestling) and taking a lot of credits. I figured out what I wanted to major in my second year after considering and experiencing a few options. I learned it’s very important to have a plan for college, even if you don’t stick with it. Being organized will save your life, and a ton of money. After leaving wrestling, I spend my free time exploring Charlottesville (especially the food spots), fishing, doing martial arts, rock climbing, and spending time with friends. Being able to engage in extracurriculars has allowed me to meet new people and have a better experience at UVA!

Tip for future students

Plan ahead! Lay out your courses, think about what jobs you need during the year, plan your extracurriculars. Being organized will save you so much time and energy. You’ll also have so much more time to have fun!

Favorite class

Politics in the Nuclear Age. It was the class that soured my interest in International Relations.

Career goals

Diplomacy

Ideal way to spend a free night

Burgers at Boylan and drinks at Ellie’s. Either that or playing video games with my girlfriend.

High school or secondary school

Loudoun County High School

Favorite spot on campus

The bottom floor of Brown Library. It’s the quietest place to study and you’re surrounded by books the whole time. It really gives you the lock-in feeling.

Meeting point

Statue of Homer on the University of Virginia campus
