Sophomore majoring in Computer Engineering excited to guide younger students

Hi! My name is Tanish, and I'm a Computer Engineering major here at UCSC. With a 3.9 GPA I keep a strong focus on my academics, but I firmly believe in living a balanced life. When I'm not in class, you can usually find me at the gym, playing basketball, or exploring the beautiful redwood trails on campus. I can't wait to help you navigate college life, share my tips for academic success, and show you what makes being a Slug so unique!

Describe your college experience

My college experience has been incredibly rewarding and well-balanced. Transitioning to campus life was an amazing experience, largely thanks to my freshman year living in Merrill, which provided a peaceful, quiet environment perfect for focusing on my engineering coursework. I loved establishing a routine that combined academic rigor with an active lifestyle, whether I was walking down past Cowell for a workout, grabbing a meal, or heading to the East Field for a game of soccer. This balance has defined my time here and allowed me to fully embrace everything the campus has to offer.

Tip for future students

Something I wish I did before starting college was researching transportation costs and methods to get home during breaks and weekends I decided to visit. It is an often overlooked aspect of college that ends up causing a lot of students stress when the time to visit home comes, so having that planned out beforehand can save you a lot of time and energy.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been ECE 13, (Computer Systems and C programming), because it allowed to bridge the gap between hardware and software. In this class we worked on uploading our code to a Nucleo F411RE board and had collaborative projects where we connected multiple boards together allowing them to communicate. It helped me understand embedded systems and gave me a lot of insight into something I might pursue as a career some day.

Career goals

After college I hope to work for a year or two and then pursue an MBA to help me start my own company.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night would be to hangout with my friends and play sports or watch a movie.

High school or secondary school

Dublin High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite place on campus is the East Field area because there are so many different activities you can do there. They have the volleyball nets, slack lines, basketball courts, soccer goals, a swimming pool, table tennis, and the gym.

Meeting point

Outside of Slug Stop on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus
