Hey! My name is Samantha, and I’m a sophomore here at UCF, currently on a pre-PA track. I’ve been a Knight for a year now, and I’m so excited to show you around campus. Describe your college experience

My transition from Texas to Orlando has been an intentional journey of growth, marked by a proactive approach to building a balanced and independent life as a pre-health student. While moving out of state presented its challenges, I quickly found my footing by getting involved in campus organizations and connecting with peers in my classes, which helped me establish a strong, supportive friend group. I have really enjoyed shaping my own experience here by focusing on my academic goals while prioritizing my personal well-being through fitness and extracurriculars, and I’ve discovered that there is so much to do outside of campus that makes the city feel like home.

Tip for future students

Embrace the First Week Energy: Everyone is in the same boat; approach people in your dorm, your classes, and at orientation events early on. That initial, slightly awkward openness is how the best friendships start. Quality Over Quantity: Being social is great, but don't feel pressured to have a massive squad immediately. Focus on finding a few people who genuinely share your interests or classes; those deeper connections make a big university like UCF feel much smaller and more manageable. Prioritize a Routine: Whether it's your fitness, your study schedule, or your self-care, having a baseline routine is what keeps you grounded when things get busy. It makes managing the stress of new classes much easier. Explore Beyond the Bubble: Don't limit yourself to just campus life. Orlando has so much to offer, so make an effort to get out and explore the city early on. It turns your new college town into your home much faster. Stay Curious, Not Just Busy: Balance your academic responsibilities with clubs or hobbies that genuinely interest you, rather than just doing things to pad your resume. You’ll be much happier and more engaged if you’re doing things you actually enjoy.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been biology 2, because there are fun scavenger hunts for animals and plants for extra credit and that was a great way to boost my grade while spending time outside with friends.

Career goals

My goals after college are to attend physician assistant school and eventually become a dermatology PA.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night would be to chill inside with a group of friends and play games and just hangout.

My favorite place on campus is probably the library because it is a really good spot to focus but also such a social place when you want it to be and some great memories have been made there.
