Describe your college experience
Though I am not immune to homesickness, I've adjusted well and have learned to adapt to college life and an entirely new envrionment. I have developed friendships that I know will last me a lifetime, and I still manage to talk to my family members and hometown friends often.
Tip for future students
- Learning how to strike a healthy balance between work and play is the most important thing for a sustainable, fulfilling college career. - Seek out new experiences — usually, they won't just come to you! - Everyone is on their own path, so comparing yourself to others is unnecessary and a bad measure of self-worth. Focus on celebrating each others' wins!
Favorite class
Magazine Writing. I took a class with an amazing professor (who brought in delicious home-baked goods every day), and she truly took an interest in every one of her 20 students in that class. I wrote several stories I am extremely proud of and got them published. Northwestern is full of professors like this who geniunely care about their students, and have the time and resources to invest in each one individually.
Career goals
I hope to be a reporter or editor at a regional paper, like the San Francisco Chronicle or Los Angeles Times. I hope to be covering important stories, ideally writing longer form features for the print and digital publication.
Ideal way to spend a free night
After a busy day, I first go for a relaxing jog around the Lakefill, enjoying the soft lake breeze and beautiful view of the Chicago skyline. Then, I shower and go out to dinner — Evanston has amazing all-you-can-eat sushi — with my friends. We'll go sit on the sandy beach and watch the sunset, then head to someone's dorm room to watch a movie on their projector. I'll walk back to my room after the movie listening to music, always feeling safe in Evanston neighborhoods and bathing in the glow of my wonderful evening.
