Describe your college experience

My transition to college has been both exciting and rewarding. I began my journey at Valencia College, where I earned my Associate in Arts degree before transferring to the University of Central Florida to pursue a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology. As an international student, adapting to a new country and educational system presented unique challenges, but it also helped me become more independent, organized, and resilient. Since transferring to UCF, I've enjoyed taking hands-on laboratory courses, getting involved in research opportunities, and connecting with other students who share my passion for science. My college experience has taught me the importance of time management, perseverance, and building a supportive community. Looking back, I'm proud of how much I've grown both academically and personally, and I'm excited to help future students navigate their own college journey with confidence

Tip for future students

My biggest tip for future students is to get involved early and take advantage of the resources available on campus. Building connections with professors, classmates, and student organizations can make the college experience much more meaningful and help you feel part of the community. I also recommend staying organized, managing your time wisely, and not being afraid to ask for help when you need it. Something I wish I had known before starting college is that it is okay to take time to adjust and find your path. College is not only about academics—it is also a time to discover your interests, develop new skills, and grow as a person. Stay open to new experiences, be proactive, and remember that every challenge is an opportunity to learn and improve.

Favorite class

My favorite classes have been my biotechnology laboratory courses because they allow me to apply concepts from lectures through hands-on experiments. I enjoy learning techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and molecular analysis because they connect what I learn in the classroom to real-world scientific research. These experiences have strengthened my passion for molecular biology and genetics while helping me develop valuable skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and laboratory practices. I especially appreciate how these courses provide opportunities to explore how biotechnology can be used to improve healthcare and develop new scientific solutions.

Career goals

After college, I hope to continue my education by pursuing graduate studies in molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related field. My goal is to build a career in scientific research, focusing on areas such as genetics, disease mechanisms, and the development of new biomedical treatments. I am passionate about using biotechnology to solve complex biological problems and contribute to discoveries that can improve human health. I hope to gain research experience, continue developing my laboratory skills, and eventually work as a scientist in an academic, clinical, or biotechnology industry setting.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is enjoying a balance between relaxation and exploring new experiences. I love trying new restaurants or cafés, spending time with friends, and discovering new places around Orlando. I also enjoy quiet evenings at home, whether it is baking, watching a good movie, or taking time to recharge after a busy week. For me, the best nights are the ones where I can connect with people I care about while enjoying simple moments
