Describe your college experience

I moved from Jamaica to a small town in the US; a year later I ended up at UMASS Amherst. I've had so many experiences in such a short time. From meeting new people from all over the world (and even from home), learning interesting facts and history about Amherst and surrounding areas, attending many campus events, trying new foods and discovering new passions; my college journey has been nothing short of amazing!

Tip for future students

Meet with your advisors!! They are very helpful and will ensure that you're all set. Don't be afraid to use campus resources (especially the free ones). They are there for a reason! Make friends from inside and outside your major/college; there is always room to discover new interests and passions. Build relationships with your Professors. This will be great when writing a thesis, or when you need a letter of recommendation and campus involvement.

Favorite class

AFRO-AM240: African American short stories Before this class, I've never read any Black American literature. The Professor was amazing and selected interesting authors and pieces for the semester. This class was very enjoyable, and the discussions and assignments we were given built passion for the course.

Career goals

I hope (and pray) to head straight into a fully funded PHD program in Clinical Psychology.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Netflix, Roblox and music or Webtoon.

High school or secondary school

St. Hugh's High School - Kingston, Jamaica

Meeting point

Minuteman Monument on the University of Massachuseets Amherst campus
