Describe your college experience
Transitioning to college was both exciting and challenging, but UC Santa Cruz quickly became a place where I felt supported and connected. As a Computer Science and Game Design student, I've enjoyed exploring opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, from joining student organizations to working on campus and attending events that have helped me build friendships and develop professionally. I've learned how important it is to ask questions, get involved, make connections, and take advantage of the many resources available. My experience has made me appreciate the welcoming and collaborative community at UCSC.
Tip for future students
My biggest piece of advice and something I wish I knew before coming to UC Santa Cruz is to get involved as early as possible, even if it might feel intimidating. Join clubs, attend on-campus events, talk to people, because those experiences can help you find your community. I'd also encourage students to take advantage of office hours, academic resources, and career opportunities from the start. Make an account on Handshake, apply to internships and jobs, even if you think it is a long shot. That way, you're in the network and recruiters know when to reach out to you. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, it is everyone's first time here.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been CMPM 80k Foundations of Game Design which laid the groundwork for video game creation. I enjoyed this class deeply because I got the opportunity to create games and explore different game design platforms I can use in the future.
Career goals
I hope to land a job in Software Engineering or Game Design and pursue a Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night is going to Taco Bell with my friends and come back to watch a movie in the student lounge.
