Hi!! I'm a second year Odyssey scholar at the College studying anthropology and human rights. I have an on-campus job that I love, am active in the campus' sustainability club (#ilovecomposting) and outdoor adventure club, and look forward to studying abroad in Paris next quarter. I've done my dues of major exploration, found out how to get paid to do research that excites me, and learned to maximize FGLI resources. Balancing social life and academics was a big priority of my first year, and it has brought me so many opportunities I'd love to share with future Maroons.

Describe your college experience

I came to college not knowing anyone in Chicago, let alone at the College. I tried my hand at a few clubs till I found the ones that stuck, changed my major several times, and didn't make my 'core friends' till Winter Quarter. After much trial and error and learning some pretty big lessons about myself, I have a great community, take classes that interest me, and finally feel at home on campus.

Tip for future students

Find the mailing lists and check them often!! I've gotten so many free experiences all because I took the time to read an email. Trips to NYC and SF, ballets, dinners... very awesome.

Favorite class

Corporatism and Human Rights! It was a dense course on understanding core political economy frameworks and using them to situate extractive industries (think mining industries for example) and labor dynamics throughout space and time and their contentions with human rights. Very reading intensive, but it beautifully encouraged a 'life of the mind.'

Career goals

Human rights lawyer and eventually an anthropology professor.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Friends! With Chicago in our backyard and all of us being spread out across academic fields, there is always something to do. I find myself going to things I didn't even know were options, like attending a presentation on medieval representations of sex and gender in art from a curator at the MET Cloisters. It was so sick!
