UCSC Second-Year, Biology Major & Cal Teach Intern, Happy to Answer Questions
Hi! I'm Susannah, a sophomore at UC Santa Cruz studying Biology and working toward becoming a high school biology teacher through the Cal Teach program. I grew up in the Central Valley and chose UCSC for its incredible natural environment and tight-knit academic community. I've always loved helping people feel welcome and at ease. I'll show up with a smile and give you an honest, down-to-earth look at what life at UCSC is really like!

Describe your college experience
Coming from a small town, UCSC felt big at first, but the campus culture made it easy to find my people. Between enjoying the beautiful campus, diving into my biology courses, and working as a paraprofessional in local schools, I've built a really full and meaningful time so far.
Tip for future students
Don't be afraid to ask for help early; your professors and TAs are so approachable here. Also, get outside! The redwoods and coastline are part of what makes UCSC special, so actually experience them.
Favorite class
Biology — it connects directly to my goal of becoming a teacher and makes me excited to share science with future students.
Career goals
I plan to become a high school biology teacher in the Central Coast or Central Valley, giving back to the communities I grew up in.
Ideal way to spend a free night
A walk through the redwoods or the beach with friends and a good sandwich from downtown, or a creative project: drawing, painting, or working on something with friends.
