Hi everyone, my name is Tanvi, and I'll be your tour guide for today!

I'm a current sophomore here at UCSC, studying Politics and Legal Studies. I'm from the Bay Area, so when I picking schools I wanted to make sure I would be close to home, and in an environment surrounded my nature, so UCSC was a perfect fit for me. Today I'll be showing you through academic buildings, residential and dining halls, and other major campus attractions. If you have any questions throughout the tour, please feel free to ask at any given time. If there's no questions right now, I think we can get started!

Describe your college experience

My transition from high school to college was definitely a different experience for me- the biggest thing I had trouble getting adjusted to was living away from home for extended periods of time. However, being away from home also gave me ample opportunity, such as making new friends, learning responsibilty, and learning how to take care of myself. I've honestly enjoyed the newfound freedom collge has given me, and I am excited to see how I can continue to learn responsibility and self reliane throughout my college journey.

Tip for future students

Something I wish I knew before I started college was that not everyone has to be your friend. While it is important to be cordial and nice to people, if they have values that don't align with yours, or are constantly undervaluing your friendship, they don't need to be your best friend. I have had countless experiences in which I have ended up dropping best friends in college because they couldn't respect my boundaries nor our frienship, and removing those people from my life gave me some much needed clarity and space.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been my Stevenson Core class from my first quarter. The class was essentially a philosophy class in which we read popular moral philosophy from revered authors such as Sarte and Nietzche, and read stories that have shaped humanity's definition of morality, such as the Bible and Gilgamesh. We discussed the moral philosophies in depth with classmates, and debated on whether we believe those philosophies to be moral or immoral. I really enjoy discussion based classes, espeically when everyone has differing opinions on similar issues, because it creates an environment for conversation that may lead to discussion on different, but related topics!

Career goals

I hope to go to law school after my 4-year undergrad. I am looking to take the LSAT around my second or third year at UCSC, and start my law school application at the beginning of my senior year of undergrad.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is to have a night in! I love cooking for myself, putting on a fun movie, and decompressing from a long week.
