Hi! I'm Robyn, a University of Chicago student studying Global Studies and Cinema & Media Studies with a minor in Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity. I'm originally from Delaware and love exploring the intersections of media, culture, and global issues both inside and outside the classroom. On campus, I've been involved in leadership and community-building through programs like Seeds of Justice, Leaders of Color, Maroon Mentors, and Kreyole Club, where I serve as Social Media Chair. I've also studied abroad in Morocco and worked in communications and fundraising internships. Hometown

One of my favorite classes has been Of Pirates and Copycats because it combines media studies, law, and culture in a really unique way. We've explored questions about intellectual property, creativity, and who gets to own ideas, using examples from film, technology, and global media like, for example, Black Swan and Perfect Blue. It's challenged me to think critically about how culture is produced and shared. Or Black in the City, I included Kendrick Lamar and Paul Laurence Dunbar in my final anthology!

Maroon Mentors, University of Chicago (2025–Present) Peer Mentor. Mentor 2–3 incoming first-year students throughout their transition to UChicago, providing academic guidance, community-building support, and organizing social outings and events. Creole Club, University of Chicago (2025–Present) Social Media Chair. Manage the club's social media presence, create graphics and promotional materials, and publicize cultural events including Haitian Independence Day celebrations and community programming. Describe your college experience

Honestly, I would say that my college experience so far has been really great. I think that University of Chicago, it is really one of the top education systems on record, but the amount of knowledge and information systems that they make you learn really makes it worthwhile. You really see every problem, every solution from a different viewpoint. And I love the area. I love being in Chicago. I love being in Hyde Park. I love the food. I love the people. I love the professors. I don't love the weather, but I also learn to love it more and more.

Tip for future students

Ignore the imposter syndrome, because everyone will simultaneously act like they are the smartest person in the room while also thinking that they are the dumbest, and always remember that.

Favorite class

Probably my two favorite classes are of Pirates and Copycats for my global studies requirement. Love the class on piracy, intellectual property, across the world. And I was even able to relate it to cinema media by using my final to talk about Perfect Blue and Black Swan. I also really loved Black in the city. That was for my RDI major requirement. But that's also fun. You really can use these classes to explore what makes you invested in the class. I created a final anthology and I was able to use the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Paul Lawrence Dunbar in conversation with each other for my final.

Career goals

After college, I hope to work at the intersection of communications, public policy, media, and social impact, hopefully through international law. I'm interested in storytelling as a tool for social change and want to help build more equitable systems through advocacy, policy, or mission-driven organizations.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Ideal way to spend a free night is to probably use a free meal exchange at Cafe Phe Da in the Eckert Research Center, go to the quad, eat on the quad, chat with my friends, then go to Harper Theater, watch a movie, leave Harper Theater, do fourth meal at Baker Dining Commons, debrief the movie at Baker, get an ice cream sundae, see what events are at Reynolds, then late night soccer on Midway.
