Hi, my name is Luz! I am a second year student who recently got admitted to the School of Data Science. I'm originally from Illinois, but discovering the Charlottesville area has been one of my favorite activities since being at UVA. I look forward to meeting all new students and showing them the ins and outs of the university, as well as the fun culture we have here!

Describe your college experience
It was amazing because not only did we get to have the most fun experiences dedicated to first years at the beginning of the year, we were also invited to events that involved the entirety of UVA. It feels like a small community is built up even if the school is pretty big!
Tip for future students
I think just be more open to going to events. You can't make friends here through social media, you need to be putting yourself out there and making friends in person!
Favorite class
My favorite class was my child psychology class. It was amazing in the sense that it was slightly challenging but kept the attention of almost everyone. The children that were presented were so cute and the teacher was amazing at explaining concepts. It honestly felt like it was gonna be such a good morning after being in the class.
Career goals
I hope to be a data analyst after graduating hopefully focusing on the public policy to be able to influence laws and policies which will benefit the community. I also hope to one day work for Virginia to see how those law changes impact the residents.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Typically, I love going to the Downtown Mall because I have such a fun time there. They have so many restaurants, activities, and shops to go into. The general atmosphere is beautiful and it feels like it has so much life to it.
