Nathan CC'28 - Political Science-Statistics Major, Chronic Theater Kid

My name is Nathan, and I have found my home at Columbia in the theater and performing arts spaces on campus. Our campus is smack in the middle of New York City, which gives me great access to Broadway shows and other smaller productions that my friends and I occasionally seek out and enjoy, so hit me up if you are curious about the arts or interested in getting involved in them on campus! Additionally, I am super into writing, whether creative or more academic. I've gotten involved in leadership roles on several campus publications in the political science, journalism, and human rights areas and I teach creative writing classes online with an org called Written Out Loud. If you are an avid reader or writer, or a history lover, you will definitely be interested in some of these publications and I'd love to tell you all about my experience with them! Last and not least, I know a lot of people at Barnard including my wonderful girlfriend so if you are still considering both Columbia and Barnard, I'd gladly help you get any answers and information you may need in making that decision :)

Describe your college experience

My college experience thus far has been incredible. My first semester was a bit of a rocky transition where I had to decide which clubs and jobs were going to be my keepers, and I went through a few months of finding my people, but once I did, everything clicked. I love my classes, my friends, and I met my girlfriend at Barnard through the theater world where I have felt so at home.

Tip for future students

TRY LOTS OF THINGS! You never know what club informational meeting might turn into a serious passion of yours once you learn more about the organization and the types of projects clubs on campus take on.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been Rethinking Middle Eastern Politics. I love a good history class and this one is part of the Global Core requirement, and it gave a really in-depth explanation of the major conflicts in the Middle East and the centuries of history that got us to where we are today. Some cool papers and overall a great experience.

Career goals

I hope to work in policy writing, at a thinktank in DC :)

Ideal way to spend a free night

I tend to be in rehearsals! I love the theater and a cappella world on our campus and the people are incredible, so rehearsals are always fun and lively. On the weekends I like to try and make time for date nights with my girlfriend, dorm hangouts with our friends, and occasionally a quick trip home to visit my family in New Jersey.
