Stanford University

Stanford through the eyes a small town kid moving to fast paced life

James M
James MNew

I’m a current freshman studying CS and Aerospace Engineering. I chose to attend Stanford over MIT and Princeton, meaning I’ve been in the situation where you’re weighing every schools pros and cons, and I’m excited to help guide your kid through that process too.

Describe your college experience

College has been one of the best years of my life between all the amazing relationships I’ve made and all the skills I’ve learned.

Tip for future students

Don’t overthink things, in the first few weeks you’ll be smothered with so many activities it’ll begin to feel overwhelming, I recommend just acting on impulse and going with the flow through it all. Trust me life will settle down as the year progresses.

Favorite class

CS231N Deep Learning for Computer Vision: a great challenging course with so much real world application built into it and a project based learning style that made it so engaging.

Career goals

I hope to be a founder, working in Agtech, perhaps that’s building drones to optimize pesticide usage on farmland or maybe it’s making software to track cattle health 24/7.

Ideal way to spend a free night

On a random sidequest with my friends where we’ve put in minimal planning but we have a group and an adventurous spirit.

High school or secondary school

Colfax High School, Colfax Washington

Meeting point

Tanner Fountain on the Stanford University campus
