Hi! My name is Aashi. I am currently a freshman at Syracuse University, originally from Rockland County. I’m a student in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, where I’m pursuing majors in Finance and Accounting. I played women's club rugby during the fall semester and participate in the South Asian Student Association. I’m also involved in the investment club, where I’ve been exploring my interest in finance. And I’m an active member of Phi Sigma Sigma.

Describe your college experience

As cliché as it sounds, my college experience has genuinely been everything I’ve dreamed of and so much more. I grew up an only child in a small suburban town. It's all I’ve ever known, so I was pretty scared to leave home and the people I love most. What helped me the most with my transition into college was choosing somewhere I truly wanted to be. Even on tough days, it gives me so much comfort to know that at the end of the day, I am exactly where I want to be. Syracuse University isn’t just a college to me, it’s my second home. My experience here truly couldn’t be better. During the week, I get to learn in Whitman what I hope to pursue as a career, guided by amazing professors who have made a lasting impact on my educational journey. I also love getting to enjoy campus events, like “Date with a Blind Book,” which is one of my personal favorites. And on the weekends, my favorite part of going here, I feel so lucky to be screaming, covered in orange, in the Dome. I truly couldn't imagine being anywhere else.

Tip for future students

My two biggest tips for future students at Syracuse University are to get involved and get season tickets to the Dome. It’s completely normal to feel nervous or out of place when you first arrive in a new environment, but getting involved is the best way to find where you belong. Whether that means finding something that already brings you comfort on campus or trying something you never imagined yourself doing. I personally had never even considered playing rugby, but after attending the club and organization fair during my fall semester, I found myself with about 20 new friends and teammates I loved getting to know. They made such a big campus feel much more like home. I also think going to games at the Dome is one of the best parts of being here. Even if you don’t usually enjoy sporting events, you’ll absolutely fall in love with the atmosphere. It’s not just our teams that make it special, it's the energy of being surrounded by fellow students, all cheering together as one. It’s a feeling that’s hard to replicate anywhere else.

Favorite class

My favorite class I’ve taken so far has been SOM 122. It’s basically an introduction to business class, where we explore topics from the different majors offered in Whitman. I absolutely loved this class. It was especially helpful for students like me who know they want a career in business but aren’t completely sure which path to take. I’m currently enrolled at Whitman as a projected Finance major. However, when I first made that decision as a senior in high school, I wasn’t entirely certain. I previously hadn’t really had much exposure to finance at the time of this decision. After taking SOM 122, I was able to truly solidify my decision that finance is the career path I want to pursue. It also helped me realize that I want to explore accounting as well and work toward double majoring in it.

Career goals

After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue a master’s degree and take the CPA exam. Once I’ve finished my education, I hope to begin my career working as an accountant, or in the finance sector ideally on Wall Street.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night at Syracuse University is to grab my friends and do something active and fun, like rock climbing at the Barnes Center or going ice skating during open skate at the Tennity Ice Pavilion. If we’re in the mood for something more relaxed, we’ll grab a late-night snack at BBB Bistro and hang out playing ping pong or billiards together in the basement of BBB as it is conveniently right underneath us.
