I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, so I am one of the few from out of state! I did not know anyone coming into college, but I have quickly made friends! I recently changed my major from English to a double major in English and Pre-Communications. I have so much to share on going out of state, building new friendships, dealing with homesickness, and the typical college culture shocks!

I am currently involved in the Isla Vista Trading Post, and I volunteer in the Santa Barbara area. I was originally apart of Greek Life, but ultimately dropped. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay!

Describe your college experience

It was definitely challenging at first, but I was able to form friendships so quickly, since everyone is going through the same adjustments! Everything’s new, no one has it figured out, so it was nice to have a whole community to lean on. I definitely had to adjust to the California culture, considering I’m a Midwest girl, but that’s the fun of college! You get to meet so many people for many different walks of life.

Tip for future students

I would advise students to not fear change but rather, embrace it. Future students should not limit themselves, meaning they should join clubs/organizations they’re passionate about and register for classes that peak their interests. College gives people the opportunity to embrace their skills and interests, continue to grow them, and master them, so don’t waste this incredible opportunity!

Favorite class

Legal Humanities. The content was very interesting, and it tied in aspects of History, English, Philosophy, and Religion, which I found super interesting.

Career goals

I hope to either go to graduate school or land a steady-paying job that aligns with my major!

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love to go bike riding with my friends to a cute dinner spot and then perhaps indulging in a sweet treat afterwards!!
