University of California, Los Angeles
Current sophomore / STEM student at UCLA
I am a second year data theory major and bio informatics minor involved in a research lab, different stem clubs, and martial arts on campus. For incoming students/transfers, I will be able to guide in the right direction and towards the right resources for a smooth transition into student life. For prospective students, I will be able to answer most of your questions; otherwise, I will still be able to point you in the right direction!

Describe your college experience
As I’ve transitioned from a small high school with only 400 total students to a public university with 30,000+ students, I’ve definitely felt overwhelmed a bit. My experience consists of learning how to really put myself out there and make use of the many many many resources that are available to me. In a school as big as UCLA, it is easy to feel overwhelmed especially as professors and staff won’t be able to tend more personally to you as opposed to how they would in a smaller classroom environment. I can help with giving advice on how to navigate this and thrive throughout your college years academically, physically, and (most importantly) mentally.
Tip for future students
One tip I have is to not compare yourself to other students around you or feel the desire/need to be at the same stage of life as them. Everyone has different journeys so its simply not realistic to compare your journey to that of another person, as its expected to be on different paths.
Favorite class
My favorite class, so far, has been Math 115A, in which I learned proofs and how to conceptualize and prove various linear algebra concepts. This class required me to really challenge my way of thinking about math, which has shaped how I view different math concepts now as I apply them in a data science and machine learning context.
Career goals
I hope to achieve my Master’s degree for Data Science in Health/Medicine, which I will then use to pursue a career in creating AI/ML solutions for problems in modern medicine.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Playing games and catching up on my favorite shows.

I did attend College of the Canyons during my high school years through a dual enrollment program, though I did not technically transfer from the school to UCLA.
