AJ — Rising senior at Yale University sharing my college experience
Hey everyone! My name is AJ, and I am a rising senior at Yale University from New York City. At Yale, I study Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies and am an active participant in the school's arts scene as a director, actor, and producer. When I'm not in the theater, you can find me assisting my peers in the writing center, mentoring first-years as a First-Year Counselor (FroCo), or exploring New Haven with my friends. I'm happy to talk about any and all things Yale, from everything the school has to offer to my personal experience as a Yale student. I've also been told my smile is contagious!

Describe your college experience
While I was initallly apprehensive about beginning my Yale career, three years later I can confidently say that I'm in the right place. I've found such a wonderful and supportive community of friends, classmates, and collaboraters who have helped me grow immensely. The person that I am today is so much closer to who I want to be, and I have my Yale experience to thank for that.
Tip for future students
Find what makes you tick and never let it go! The best part about Yale is everyone is passionate about something, and it's that passion that keeps the campus alive.
Favorite class
In my sophomore year, I took a playwriting class with Tony (and now Pulitzer) award-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins that allowed me to develop my own skills as a playwright. Not only was the class super engaging and creatively challenging, but it was also just such an honor and joy to learn from someone whose work I deeply admire.
Career goals
After college, I plan to pursue theater professionally primarily as a director and writer. I also hope to continue working and collaborating with the incredible friends I’ve made at Yale and to keep creating meaningful, challenging, and joyful theater together for the rest of our lives.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal night consists of going out to eat with friends and then going to see one of the many productions mounted by Yale students on any given weekend.
